EcoPilot Canada is proud to announce Maritime Centre as the recipient of the 2025 Carbon Hero Award, presented at BOMA Nova Scotia’s Annual Holiday Luncheon at The Westin Nova Scotian in Halifax on Thursday, December 4, 2025.

Located at 1505 Barrington Street, Halifax, NS, Maritime Centre is the largest office property in Canada east of Montreal, totaling 529,269 square feet (parking ratio 0.2 per 1,000 SF). Owned by Ravelin REIT and managed by Colliers Canada, the property has become a standout example of what’s possible when advanced HVAC optimization is layered onto existing building infrastructure—cutting costs and reducing emissions without a major retrofit.

Why this award matters

The Carbon Hero Award celebrates commercial real estate leaders who are meaningfully reducing greenhouse gas emissions and inspiring others across the industry to do the same.

BOMA Nova Scotia is one of eleven federated locals that together form BOMA Canada, representing more than 3,100 members and over 2.1 billion square feet of office space.

Results achieved at Maritime Centre

After integrating EcoPilot’s AI for HVAC platform into Maritime Centre’s existing Building Automation System (BAS), the team delivered measurable outcomes:

  • More than $110,000 in verified savings, with even higher savings projected next year

  • Over 600 tonnes of CO₂ avoided, equivalent to powering 125 Canadian homes for one year

  • Zero upfront capital, leveraging existing infrastructure

These results reflect not only technology performance, but also strong leadership and execution in a complex facility environment.

Recognizing the project champions

This project succeeded because leaders championed innovation and made it happen:

  • Jeremy Kaupp, Managing Director, Ravelin REIT — whose vision for asset performance and sustainability helped set the direction

  • Suzanne LeBlanc, Property Manager, Colliers Canada — whose operational leadership and coordination supported a seamless integration

Congratulations to Maritime Centre—and welcome to the Carbon Hero family.

Honouring past Carbon Hero recipients

EcoPilot also recognizes past Carbon Hero Award recipients who continue to inspire progress across Canada’s built environment: Crombie REIT, Southwest Properties, Shannex, VIDA, and Marriott Harbourfront.
