Halifax Marriott Harbourfront Leads Industry in First AI for HVAC
Artificial Intelligence is transforming how we work, play and travel in the 21st century and for the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront, it’s transforming autonomous management of their HVAC.
Fueled with a desire to do their part in climate change mitigation, as well as continued improvements in guest comfort and operational improvements, the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront installed iBOS® AI solution for HVAC energy efficiency, representing the first hotel in North America to utilize this innovation for carbon reduction. This project is also subject for rebate through Efficiency Nova Scotia further adding to the project value.
In June, the hotel went live with iBOS®'s intelligent and autonomous HVAC control and five months into the project, has earned significant energy and operational efficiencies, reducing natural gas consumption by 24.5% and electricity by 3%. That’s total building energy consumption savings of 13%.
“To incorporate AI that automatically optimizes our HVAC performance is very exciting and we’re thrilled to be at the forefront of this solution in our industry,” shares Jeff Ransome, Halifax Marriott Harbourfront’s General Manager. “We’re on track to exceed the estimated savings guaranteed by EcoPilot Canada | USA and were pleasantly surprised that iBOS®’s AI was also able to identify system issues we weren’t aware of, as well as recommendations for greater efficiencies, both that will result in additional energy savings.”
The Halifax Marriott Harbourfront Hotel has been recently renovated and offers leisure and business travelers an oasis of relaxation, entertainment and business connectivity in Nova Scotia’s bustling capital city. The Halifax Marriott Harbourfront is the only hotel situated along the scenic Halifax waterfront, offering easy access to the shops and restaurants along the boardwalk as well as the Historic Properties, and to Casino Nova Scotia via an indoor pedway. These protocols include mandated mask-wearing for all guests and associates within the hotel, and the use of electrostatic sprayers and the highest classification of disinfectants recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and World Health Organization to sanitize surfaces throughout hotels.
